August’s Astronomy Events

August‘s night sky has a few events – including the first meteor shower in a while – for us to enjoy.

All images are from SkySafari 6 and can be clicked on for a full screen version.

11 – The almost-full moon and Saturn rise together in the east this evening. This is the view heading towards midnight.

12 – The following morning, we’ll see Jupiter and Venus within touching distance in Gemini. Once again, this is what the sky will look like at 5:30 in the morning.

13 – The Perseid meteor shower reaches its climax in the early hours of this morning, while Jupiter and Venus are still together.

19 – We continue the ‘early bird’ theme with a Venus, Jupiter and crescent moon trio at 5:30 this morning.

21 – This similar parade shows the moon with just about the thinnest sliver we can see.
